Mount & Pet System Guide

Why Mounts and Pets Matter

Mounts and pets are more than just cosmetic companions in Classic MapleStory—they provide tangible gameplay benefits that become increasingly important as you progress. Mounts dramatically increase your travel speed, making map navigation and quest completion significantly faster. Pets automatically loot items, saving you countless hours of manually picking up drops during training sessions.

Unlike modern MapleStory where these features are nearly mandatory, Classic World preserves the original system where mounts and pets are valuable conveniences rather than necessities. This guide will help you understand how to obtain, maintain, and maximize the benefits of these companions.

Understanding the Mount System

Mounts in Classic MapleStory are rideable creatures that increase your movement speed by approximately 40-60% depending on the mount type. Each class has access to specific mounts through their job advancement quests, though some universal mounts are available to all players.

How Mounts Work

🎫 Mount Ticket System: To use a mount, you need both the mount item AND mount tickets. Each ticket provides 1 hour of mount usage time.

⚡ Speed Bonus: Mounts increase your base movement speed, but the exact bonus varies by mount type and level.

⏱️ Time Consumption: Mount tickets are consumed in real-time while riding, not in-game time. Dismounting pauses ticket consumption.

🎯 Mounting/Dismounting: You can mount/dismount instantly using a hotkey, making them practical for both travel and combat scenarios.

Advantages of Mounts

  • • Significantly faster travel between towns and training spots
  • • Reduced time spent on map traversal during quests
  • • Quality of life improvement for large map navigation
  • • Can jump while mounted (unlike some MMOs)
  • • Some mounts provide unique animations and prestige

Limitations & Drawbacks

  • • Cannot attack while mounted (must dismount first)
  • • Mount tickets cost mesos or require cash shop purchases
  • • Speed increase doesn't affect training efficiency
  • • Some narrow maps make mounts impractical
  • • Tickets expire over time whether used or not

The Pet System Explained

Pets are small companion creatures that follow your character around and automatically pick up items within a certain radius. In Classic World, pets serve a purely utilitarian function—they're all about quality of life during training and farming.

How Pets Work

🐾 Automatic Looting: Pets pick up items, mesos, and equipment drops within approximately 3-5 tiles of your character.

⏰ Pet Life Span: Most pets last 90 days (real-time) from activation. After expiration, the pet disappears permanently.

😊 Hunger & Happiness: Pets have a fullness meter that depletes over time. Feed them with pet food to maintain happiness.

🎭 Commands & Tricks: You can teach pets commands for fun interactions, though these don't provide gameplay benefits.

📦 Inventory Management: Pets place looted items directly into your inventory, so ensure you have space.

🐶 Common Pets

  • • Brown Puppy
  • • Black Kitty
  • • Pink Bunny
  • • Mini Yeti
  • • Rudolph

Standard pets with identical looting capabilities

✨ Premium Pets

  • • Dragon
  • • Robot
  • • Panda

Obtaining Pets in Classic World

Method 1: Cash Shop Purchase

The primary method for obtaining pets is through the cash shop. Pets typically cost NX (Nexon Cash), MapleStory's premium currency.

Typical Cost: 5,000-10,000 NX (~$5-10 USD)

Duration: 90 days from activation

Note: Classic World's cosmetic-only cash shop policy means pets may be priced lower than in modern MapleStory

Method 2: Quest Rewards

Some pets are available as rewards from high-level quests or achievement systems. These are typically 30-day or 60-day duration pets rather than the full 90 days.

  • • Level 50 achievement reward pet (30 days)
  • • Guild contribution milestone rewards
  • • Special event completion rewards

Method 3: Player Trading

Pet items can sometimes be traded between players in the Free Market. Unused pet eggs (before activation) hold trade value.

Free Market Prices: Typically 10-30 million mesos for common pets

Warning: Ensure pet hasn't been activated yet - activated pets cannot be traded

Pet Management & Care

Keeping Your Pet Happy

Fullness System

Pets have a fullness bar (0-100) that depletes approximately 1 point per minute while summoned.

• 100-50 Fullness: Pet is happy and loots normally

• 49-20 Fullness: Pet becomes sad, looting may slow

• 19-0 Fullness: Pet refuses to loot, requires feeding

Pet Food

Purchase pet food from Pet Shops in major towns or from the cash shop.

Basic Pet Food: Restores 30 fullness, costs ~1,000 mesos

Premium Pet Food: Restores 60 fullness, cash shop item

Daily Cost: Approximately 50,000-100,000 mesos per day for active use

Pet Commands

Teach your pet tricks by using command scrolls purchased from Pet Shops.

  • • Sit - Pet sits down
  • • Bad, Bad - Pet acts ashamed
  • • Play Dead - Pet plays dead
  • • Poop - Pet leaves a poop emoji (fun only!)

Pet Equipment

Pets can wear equipment items that change their appearance.

  • • Meso Magnet - Cosmetic accessory
  • • Item Pouch - Cosmetic bag
  • • Pet Hats - Various hat styles
  • • Wing accessories - Aesthetic only

Note: Pet equipment is purely cosmetic in Classic World

Is a Pet Worth It?

Cost-Benefit Analysis

✅ Benefits

  • Time Saved: Auto-looting saves ~5-10 seconds per minute of grinding
  • Efficiency: Over a 1-hour training session, pick up ~300-500 more items
  • Meso Gains: Never miss meso drops = approximately 10-15% more mesos per hour
  • Quality of Life: Can focus entirely on combat, not looting
  • Rare Drops: Never miss valuable drops due to inventory management

❌ Costs

  • Initial Cost: 5,000-10,000 NX (~$5-10) or 10-30M mesos
  • Food Costs: ~50,000-100,000 mesos per day of active use
  • 90-Day Expiration: Need to repurchase every 3 months
  • Ongoing Expense: Pet ownership is a recurring cost

Recommendation:

For serious players (3+ hours daily training): A pet pays for itself through increased efficiency and meso gains. Absolutely worth it.

For casual players (1-2 hours daily): Consider a pet if you can afford it, but it's not mandatory. Manual looting is manageable.

For endgame/boss content: Highly recommended. Missing drops during boss runs is costly—pets ensure you get all your loot.

Tips & Best Practices

Mount Tips

  • • Only use mounts for travel, not during combat (can't attack while mounted)
  • • Buy mount tickets in bulk when they're on sale
  • • Dismount before entering training maps to save ticket time
  • • Use mounts for quest turn-ins to save time
  • • Higher job mounts are worth the upgrade (significant speed boost)

Pet Tips

  • • Keep pet food hotkeyed for quick feeding
  • • Feed pet before it drops below 50 fullness for best efficiency
  • • Unsummon pet when not training to conserve fullness
  • • Expand inventory slots to maximize pet looting efficiency
  • • Set loot filters to avoid picking up junk items

Money-Saving Tips

  • • Buy used pet eggs from Free Market (cheaper than cash shop)
  • • Wait for cash shop sales on pets (often 30-50% off)
  • • Stock up on pet food during merchant sales
  • • Consider sharing a pet across alts if only one character actively trains

Common Mistakes

  • • Activating multiple pets when you only need one
  • • Forgetting to feed pet, wasting fullness bar
  • • Keeping mount active while training (wastes tickets)
  • • Buying premium pet food when basic food works fine
